When can I do sport again after an arthroscopic meniscus operation?

When sport can be practised again after an arthroscopic meniscus operation depends on whether a partial meniscus removal or a meniscus suture was performed during the operation.

In the case of a partial meniscus removal, ergometer training and cycling can be started as early as 2 weeks after the operation. Running is possible after 4-6 weeks, contact sports and ball sports are recommended after 6-8 weeks.

In the case of a meniscus suture, it is necessary to relieve the leg for a certain period of time (partial weight bearing) and to restrict movement with a splint. Sports (running, contact and ball sports) are recommended after 3-6 months, depending on the size of the tear.
